PLAN YOUR STAY

...with some helpful tips...

Let's face it, planning a trip can be tough. We share some helpful information on how to get to Bocas del Toro and answer other FAQs so you can make the most of your time in this slice of paradise.

How to get to Bocas del Toro, Panamá

From Panama City, Panamá

By air

With just a one-hour journey time, flying is the most convenient and quickest way to reach Bocas from Panama City. Air Panama is currently the only airline that flies to Bocas. Flights are daily, and fly from Marcos A. Gelabert Airport (known locally as Albrook airport, shown on Air Panama's website as 'Panama City (PAC) Panama'), to Bocas International Airport (shown on Air Panama's website as 'Bocas del Toro (BOC) Panama').

You can find flight times and book flights via Air Panama's website. We would advise calling the airline for the full flight schedule. Please also bear in mind that flights are only available roughly 3-4 months in advance (sometimes less). Return flights from Panama City to Bocas cost an estimated $250 per person.

By bus

The more economical and adventurous way to travel from the city to Bocas is by bus. There are normally three night buses, 'daily', leaving Albrook Bus Terminal at 6pm, 6.30pm and 7pm. The journey takes between 10 and 12 hours depending on traffic out of the city, and costs just under $30 for the bus journey only (one way) and about $35 if you include the water taxi that will take you from Almirante (where the bus terminates) to Bocas island (Isla Colon).

Tickets can only be purchased a day in advance or on the day of travel from a booth at Albrook Bus Terminal. You need passport or other ID in order to purchase your ticket.

From Boquete, Panamá

By shuttle bus

Caribe Shuttle provides a shuttle service directly to Almirante and will also arrange your water taxi ticket from Almirante to Bocas island (Isla Colon). Journey time is roughly 3-4 hours and tickets are $30 per person (children less). Visit their website for schedule and more details.

By taxi

If you need or want the freedom to be able to stop and take a break when you want, taxis will drive you to Almirante for an estimated $120. Make sure to agree the price before getting on board! Ask to be dropped at 'Taxi 25', in Almirante, from where you will need to buy a ticket for the Taxi 25 water taxi to Bocas island (Isla Colon), $6 one way.

From David, Panamá

By bus

A number of public buses leave David's (pronounced Daveed) main bus terminal to Almirante multiple times a day. Tickets must be purchased at the terminal. From Almirante you will need to take a water taxi (we recommend Taxi 25) - a 30-minute stunning boat ride - to Bocas island (Isla Colon). Water taxi tickets are $6 per person, one way.
